You probably already know that Avast Free Antivirus 2019 is totally free and you don’t have to pay a cent to be protected. At least if you’re using it in your household for non-commercial activities.

However, there is one thing you have to do within the first 30 days and each year after. Even though you will get the license only for 1 year, you can get a new one when it expires. So you can basically keep using Avast for free forever.

It’s called activation for a license key (activation code) or serial key, and it’s very simple. It also works in any older version like Avast 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 8, 7, 6, 5 or v4.8. In the past, Avast was also using license files which were generated for a specific e-mail address. License files are luckily not used anymore and the only thing you need is a simple 28-character long unique code.

WARNING We strongly do not recommend using any keygen or crack you may find on the Internet. Most of them are full of malware.

Activate Your Avast and Get Your Free License Key (Activation Code)

Step 1 (out of 4) – Open Avast and Start the Activation

Start by opening your Avast user interface. You can do this in many ways:

• Find Avast icon on your desktop
• Find Avast program in your Start menu
• Find the Avast icon in the Windows system tray (bottom-right corner). It is usually hidden, so you need to click on the top arrow

When Avast user interface is opened you can activate it by clicking on the ‘ACTIVATE‘ button at the bottom left corner of the main window, ‘Activate‘ link in the status area, or by going to settings (bottom left corner) » ‘Subscription‘.

Alternatively, you can also find the Avast icon in the Windows system tray (bottom-right corner), right-click on it and select ‘Registration information‘.

If you are getting closer to the expiration date, Avast may also prompt you with the expiration pop-up.

Avast offers free protection for everyone, but in order to use it, you need to obtain a serial key. Why it needs a serial key if it’s a free product? That’s a really good question, but you probably need to ask Avast directly. Anyway, for some users, it may a struggle to obtain such a key, so we are giving it out to everyone. The serial key below will give you completely free protection until December 2040.

We will also explain to you how to insert it into your Avast using a step-by-step approach and screenshots, so really everyone can do it. Even if you are a beginner user.

Please note the serial key is valid only for Avast Free Antivirus 2019 running on Windows XP, 7, 8 or 10. In case you don’t have it downloaded, go to our Downloads page. If you are looking for a serial key for Avast Pro Antivirus, Avast Internet Security, or Avast Premier, there isn’t any free one. The only way to get one is to actually purchase a premium version.

How to Insert the Key Into Avast

1. Open your Avast interface and go to “Menu” » “My licenses“. You can also get there by right-clicking on the systray Avast icon and selecting “Registration information“
2. Click on “Enter a valid activation code“
3. Enter the license key and confirm by clicking “ENTER”
4. Now you should be able to use the free protection for the full year valid until 03/19/2020. You can check the subscription details in the “My licenses” area

What’s the Difference Between Serial Key and Activation Code

Basically none. Some users are referring to this unique code as a serial key while some as an activation code. Serial key is being the more old-school term. Within the product user interface, Avast always talks about the activation code.

Avast serial key for all products is always 18 characters long divided into 3 sections (6-6-6). Sometimes this piece of characters is also being called serial number, but that’s wrong in case of Avast as it always contains both characters and numbers.
